When it  rains this debris bunches up as it flows to the gutter outlet and will plug at the outlet. This is more of a problem with 2"x 3" downspout than with the larger 3" x 4" downspout.    What the BIG MOUTH does is give you a larger opening to allow this debris to flow  down and out the downspout. It also increases the water flow capacity by 3 to 4 times. Increasing the water flow also will keep your gutter cleaner.  The Big Mouth opening dimensions are 3" x 10".
